Official results of GB polls announced

LAHORE: The Election Commission has announced the official results of polling in 19 constituencies of Gilgit-Baltistan for seats in the area’s newly-formed legislative assembly, a private TV channel reported on Sunday. According to the channel, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Election Commissioner Rahem Nawaz Durrani said that re-polling would be held in four polling stations of LA-17 Diamir, while results from two constituencies have yet to be announced. According to the announcement, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won 12 seats, the PML-N and PML-Q secured two seats each and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and Muttahida Qaumi Movement won one seat each. The PML-Q has accused the PPP of large-scale rigging in the elections. However, the party leadership has announced they will accept the result for the sake of maintaining the continuity of the democratic process in the country. Also on Sunday, MQM leader Farooq Sattar accused the PPP of rigging the polls, saying that the ruling party had unfairly manipulated the electoral process in many constituencies to get their candidates elected. daily times monitor
